Lhasa de Sela's a singer of Canadian, who the course of her parents took her from small to meet U.S. and Mexico, a trip on wheels beside three sisters and their parents. His mother and father photographer author and professor of English, who wrote a book about Malinche and told him he knew all versions of La Llorona ; character always attracted the attention of Lhasa, on who says
To me she represents the dark side of love. That kind of love that
actually has some love. Seduction, tragedy, revenge. In any
order. I have written love songs of that nature, that is tragic. And
slowly learned to have a little sense of humor about my own propensity
tragedy.
At 13 he began singing in Greek coffee in San Francisco Billy Holliday Songs and Mexican songs, at 19 bars in Montreal accompanied by a guitarist Yves Desrosiers, such collaboration gave rise to the material that later became her first album, La Llorona (1997).
