A 198 years of the proclamation of independence, there is the question of what we celebrate, the very fact or what we are 198 years later?
If we consider the first option, the celebration has meaning for all who partake of it, not cause us too many questions, but if we consider the second, the celebration takes on many questions, including:
What are the achievements that the Mexican nation has had over 198 years, which are cause for celebration?
Are we better or worse socially than 198 years ago, separating the elements of modernity?
What are the elements that have added value to the Mexican culture, from 1810?
this, I question it because when we talk about the things that make us feel proud as Mexicans, we refer to regular food, pre-Columbian architecture, the colorful, our people, our music, etc., All of them more than 198 years old. But what factors occurring after 1810 can join the list?; To me come to my mind many names of Mexican intellectuals who have left an important legacy in our culture, the architecture of the time porfiriana, mariachi music, the name of large Mexican companies that have achieved recognition beyond the borders of Mexico, Mexican artists have known Mexico as in other lands, etc.. Hundreds of individual efforts, not always involve domestic support. Regardless
the success stories, national symbols and the external elements of Mexican culture, Mexico is it a better country to live past 198 years? (Leaving aside the comforts of modernity), is a more just country, is it a country where the value of human life is respected, is it a country providing development opportunities for individuals and families, is it a country with more certainty and less uncertainty?
The celebration of the beginning of independence causes me too many questions. Finally add the following: why we celebrate the day beginning and not the day you eat?
